Athletic Sports Day

 Athletic Sports Day

I could not wait until the Athletics Sports Day because I loved Athletics Day.

We had lots of juniors in our group. There were only a few seniors. The first event we went to was the long jump. I was so delighted to do the long jump because I liked doing it. When it was my turn, I was so excited because when I took off and ran I jumped to the green flag which was the middle. For our first event Miss Paton gave us 30 points for good listening and participation.

When it came to the second event I was curious to know what it was. When Mr Tyrell told us what the game was, I thought to myself how fun would this game be. The game was called Catch the tail. When the game started Ethan pulled my tail off. After that I was the tagger. I pulled off seven tails, mainly the junior’s tails.

The third event was the three legged race. I was excited for the three legged race because I was good at the three legged race. When Mrs Whyburd said “Find a partner that is about the same height because it will make it a lot easier for you.” So then we all started measuring our heights with each other. I measured my height with Madonna. We were the same height so we were partners. After that Madonna tied her left leg with my right. Then we got up and got ready to have a race. On the first race Madonna tripped over so we came second and Betty and Gallia came first. When it came to the second race me and Madonna came first in the second race. It was not easy because Madonna tripped over two times but I told her to get up quickly so we could win and guess what we won. When it came into the finals we kept trying to run and walk at the same time. When Ken.F and Ethan got half way, and then they turned around and went back so instead we won because they cheated. When the game ended, Mrs Whyburd gave us two points because some people were cheating and not listening. Then the bell rang for morning tea time. In my head I was so happy. So I ran up to get my food and started to eat my food.

Mr Hadnett said “Try to stay in the shade as much as possible because we are going to be outside all day.” When the bell rang, we all had to go down to the field again.

After morning tea Mr Hadnett gave the cards back to the leaders of our groups. Then all of the groups went back to the stations. Owairaka One had to go to the station which was the sack race.

At the sack race we had partners. When we got into partners, some people had to line up at the race track and get in the sacks. Your other partner would stand at the other side opposite you. My partner was Heidettah. I had to help Heidettah get into her sack. When Heidettah jumped to me I helped her get out of the sack. When Miss D’ Souza said “1, 2, 3 Go!” I started jumping to the finish line but I didn’t come first but at least I had fun. After jumping in the sack we did running races.

Then we did the gumboot throw. When we arrived Miss Sullings told us “Toakase threw the  furthest, using under arm”. I kept on trying to throw the gumboot further every time but the big gumboot was very heavy.

After lunch we did sprints and tug a war.  When it was sprints I was really nervous. When they called my name out I had to line up. When Mr. T clapped the two pieces of wood together we had to start running. We had to run the entire track. After this we did tug-a-war. When Owairaka versed Te Tatua I was very nervous because I had to verse Theresa my friend. When Owairaka won I was overjoyed.

Overall I had a great day but I was really exhausted and tired.

Pick a Path Story By Jia, Ching, Theresa, Agnes and Andrea

In the past two weeks we have been making pick a path stories. It was hard because we had five people instead of four people.
